Burnout: What it Looks Like and How to Recover

Proposal burnout is a very real and common challenge faced by government teams who consistently operate under high-pressure deadlines, complex requirements, and demanding review cycles. Recovery begins with intentional rest and mental decompression — allowing yourself and your team to step back, celebrate the effort invested, and acknowledge the emotional toll of the process before jumping into the next task. Rebuilding momentum requires a structured debriefing session where the team reflects on what worked, what didn't, and identifies process improvements to reduce friction in future proposals. Finally, investing in team morale through recognition, workload rebalancing, and open communication channels will help restore energy, rebuild trust, and create a healthier, more sustainable proposal development culture going forward.
